About Our Expo

We are seeking to provide a hobby show experience that we hope will be different from other shows that you may have attended.  Our goal is to provide an Expo that is more like an art exhibit, rather than a traditional “model competition.”  We want the focus of our Expo to be on the modeller and hope our Expo will facilitate increased social interactions between modellers and help grow and build the local modeling community.

This desire is influenced by Shep Paine and his “juried exhibition” approach to Model shows.  In his words:

“I think we need to downplay the importance of the awards and lay greater emphasis on the social aspects of the shows. The show organizers have to promote the social gatherings more and the show reports need to be more than just a recitation of who won what. We need to use the shows more as as teaching venues offering the “average painter a real chance to improve his works. Demonstrations, workshops, I don’t know what works but we need to keep trying.” Letter from Shep Paine to the Editor of Historical Minature Magazine (2001).

Our Expo will afford the opportunity for the modeller to display their work in a setting which fosters an atmosphere of friendly collaboration and communication between individuals with a common interest in our wonderful hobby.  All of the works of each individual modeller, regardless of genre or scale, will be grouped together on the display tables along with a place card with the name of the modeller.  In addition, each modeller will have a name tag to wear to encourage social interactions as we wish to support building a more connected and stronger modelling community.  We will also be hosting a post event social gathering at a nearby restaurant and invite all participants to join us there in celebrating our fantastic hobby.

Seeking to provide greater value to the modellers who participate in our event, we have also arranged a number of seminar style presentations by expert modellers and an accomphlished historian on topics that we hope you will enjoy.  We will also be hosting a post event social gathering that we hope you will join us for.

Our focus is to provide the modeler a forum to share their work with others as well as to be inspired by the work of other modellers, to provide a means to socialize and interact with modellers of many different genres and ability levels, and to have opportunities to learn from others in the hobby through attending our seminars and from the other Expo participants.  Most of all, we just want you to have a great time!
