In addition to exhibition-style displays and Open system evaluations, the Wine Country Model Expo will feature a full day of in-person seminar presentations led by respected and accomplished modellers and historians.

These sessions are designed to be practical, engaging, and conversational — offering attendees the opportunity to learn specific techniques, explore different approaches, and engage directly with the presenters. These seminars reflect the Expo’s emphasis on shared learning, community, and conversation over competition. All seminars are included with Expo admission.

Figure Painting Across Genres

Grant Mayberry is a longtime scale modeller and co-host of the Plastic Posse Podcast, one of the hobby’s most widely followed modeling podcasts. He is known for his work in figure painting across multiple genres, including fantasy, sci-fi, and historical subjects. Grant brings a practical, process-oriented approach to painting that emphasizes clean execution, strong fundamentals, and consistent results.

Stop Being Afraid Of Scratch Building

Brett Prusso is the founder of Hammerhead Model Making and a passionate advocate for practical scratch building techniques. His work focuses on enhancing scale models through structural improvements and custom detailing using accessible tools and materials. Brett is known for breaking down complex techniques into manageable steps that encourage modelers to push their skills further.

Diorama Composition

Martin Drayton is an accomplished scale modeller known for his carefully composed dioramas and scenic builds. His work emphasizes balance, narrative, and visual flow, blending technical craftsmanship with artistic presentation. Through Emdee Scale Models, Martin shares techniques and insights that help modelers strengthen the storytelling aspects of their projects.

Martin will explore how thoughtful composition creates visual balance and tells a story within a scene. The session will cover layout planning, focal points, and techniques for guiding the viewer’s eye.

WWII Aviation History: The P-40 in Context

Carl Molesworth is an aviation historian and author specializing in World War II aircraft and combat operations. He has written extensively on American and Allied aviation subjects, including the P-40 and other iconic fighters of the era. Carl brings historical depth and operational context that enrich the understanding of aircraft modeling projects.

Carl will present an in-depth historical look at the P-40, examining its operational history and combat use. This session offers historical insight that can inform modeling decisions and deepen understanding of the subject.
